A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to the Thornlie Senior High School Community
Our Vision – Engage Inspire Achieve
Our aim is for Thornlie SHS students to fulfil their aspirations working in an environment that emphasises the importance of respectful relationships and the achievement of personal best.
It is with great pride and a tinge of sadness that I write my final newsletter as principal of this wonderful school: that is our Thornlie Ohana (family).
Since arriving at Thornlie SHS in 2017 I have had the honour of working with a highly dedicated team of exceptional staff, a highly supportive School Board chaired by Mayor Terresa Lynes, and an incredibly productive P&C, led by Mrs Michelle Manolas.
I sincerely thank past and current families for their trust, patience and support as we worked together to guide nine cohorts of students through from enrolment as bright and enthusiastic Year 7s to Year 12 as graduates who were well prepared, mature global citizens ready to make a difference in the real world.
When school returns in Term 4 to farewell the Class of 2025 on Friday 17th October, I will formally say goodbye to the school community and hand over to the incoming principal, Mrs Erin Baker.
My new appointment is to Rockingham SHS – I look forward to our ongoing matches on the Rugby Field and I will certainly be barracking for both sides.
Term 3 Highlights
We conclude this term with two weeks of highly engaging Arts Week activities that included artists in residence, the Thunder Ohana Dance Showcase and Music Concert we close, another very term the demonstrate our success as a High Care: High Performance school.
It has been a pleasure to see the finale of the outstanding work completed in the classroom, across the community and, on the sporting fields to date by our staff and students over this school year. We currently have eleven Japanese Exchange Students along with Mrs Stewart and Mr Young, experiencing 2 weeks in Osaka broadening their cultural understanding and building international friendships with our sister school, Nishinomiya Senior High School.
Students have worked very hard to prepare for and engage in a wide array of whole school events including a stimulating Science Week, and an action packed RUOK? DAY celebration along with camps, excursions, incursions, work placements and sporting events that have enhanced their learning. Outstanding results have been achieved by Year 7 - 12 students in our specialist programs with Music, Cheer and Dance, Rugby and Academic Excellence with students gaining recognition in local and state competitions.
Year 10 – 12 students have worked hard to achieve success in their Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessments (OLNA) and or have been hard at work to maximise their results ensuring they are on a pathway to success in training, tertiary studies, or employment.
Throughout this term, Year 12 students have been supported by the Careers Centre to complete and submit their applications for entry to courses at university and/or TAFE in 2026.
Work will continue the school site over the October school holidays with ATAR students sitting their Semester 2 Exams and others requiring a little more support from teachers attending tutoring sessions.
Each one of these learning opportunities have enhanced individual’s outcomes this year – allowing us all to ‘Engage, Inspire and Achieve’ at Thornlie SHS.
Student Leadership
As a part of our school improvement processes the school continues to provide the opportunity for elected student leaders to participate in the planning and direction of school events and policies. This year’s Student Council, House Captains, Follow the Dream & Cultural leaders along with our hard-working Dance and Rugby Leadership teams have all been an outstanding contributor to the school community. We thank them for providing student opinions to the School Board on a wide range of policies and their contribution to The Public School Review that is scheduled for December 4th 2026.
The House Captains and Student Councillors have been integral in the design process for our new school uniform. While our cultural and sporting leaders have achieved great success with their contribution to competitions, showcases, concerts and whole school events such as Multi Cultural Day, NAIDOC Week and the Athletics Carnival.
Under the Guidance of Mr Doyle the 2025 Student Council led by School Captains, Tia Nikita and Riley Blaker have been outstanding ambassadors and successfully coordinated numerous school activities and formal assemblies. A highlight again this year was the fun filled Trivia Night raising funds for charity.
Congratulations to our newly elected Year 11 students who will lead the 2026 Student Council. The formal handover of school leadership will be included in the 2025 Year 12 Farewell Assembly on Friday 17 October.
Year 12 Final Celebrations
The Class of 2025 is nearing the culmination of their secondary schooling at Thornlie SHS. We thank them for the legacy they leave in our school’s history books.
After Year 12 students return for the very last time to our school on Tuesday 14th October, we look forward to a range of events to acknowledge their hard work and efforts to gain their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).

ENGAGE INSPIRE ACHIEVERS
Please join us in congratulating Holly, from Year 7 for her selection into the 12s Netball, School Sport Western Australia Inc. team. Her team will be traveling to Ballarat, Victoria in October to compete against other states.

Good luck Holly!
Our School Captain, Tia Nikita, recently had the incredible opportunity to take part in AYIMUN 18 - Asia Youth International Model United Nations, organised by the International Global Network.
At this international conference, students act as UN delegates, representing countries and debating pressing global issues. Tia proudly represented Armenia in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), where she contributed to discussions on the Escalation of Extrajudicial Killings in Post-War Syria.
This experience not only broadened Tia’s global awareness, but also strengthened her skills in diplomacy, leadership, critical thinking and public speaking.
We are SO proud of Tia for representing our school on such a global stage!

Congratulations to Year 11 student Caitlin Kelly who has been selected to represent Western Australia in Melbourne over the October school holidays in ballroom dancing against other. We wish her all the best.

YEAR 7 NEWS
What an incredible end to the term for our brilliant Year 7 students! The energy was electric at the recent Year 7 Disco, where everyone showed off their amazing (and sometimes hilarious!) dance moves. It was a fantastic reward event and a wonderful chance to celebrate our students who have continuously displayed the school values of Pride, Perseverance, Respect and Responsibility.
This term also saw the election of our new Year 7 Class Captains. These students have already shown fantastic leadership, helping out at events and assemblies. A huge congratulations to Hongyuan, Harper, Xavier, Mikaela, Charnell, Dexter, Lara, Zoe, Leroy, Summer, JJ, Melody, Pale, Paiman, Mianna and Phoenix.
We are very proud of everyone's efforts this term and we look forward to seeing everyone for more fun and learning next term!

FOLLOW THE DREAM
On Wednesday 3 September, students from the after-school tutoring Follow the Dream Program took part in the inspiring and engaging Deadly Dreaming excursion at Murdoch University's Kulbardi Aboriginal Centre. The event brought together Indigenous students from schools across Perth to explore future education and career pathways in a culturally empowering environment.
This event was hosted by the team at Kulbardi, Murdoch’s Aboriginal student support centre. The day was filled with engaging activities, interactive workshops, and powerful storytelling. Students were welcomed with a traditional Welcome to Country, setting the tone for a day that celebrated culture, community, and future opportunities for our Indigenous students.
Throughout the excursion, our students had the chance to:
- Hear from current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students about their journeys
- Participate in hands-on sessions that explored university life and study options
- Connect with inspirational Indigenous professionals and mentors
- Learn about the support services available through Kulbardi for future tertiary studies
The excursion was more than just a university tour. It was a chance for students to see what’s possible. For many, it sparked new aspirations and highlighted the importance of education as a pathway to achieve their dreams. Events like Deadly Dreaming continue to play a vital role in supporting our students to dream big and walk proudly in both worlds.
Please see the images of the excursion below.
The Follow the Dream Program helps plant the seed that university is not only an option, but it is an achievable goal. The FTD program has two sessions to make it convenient for those who have after school sports and work commitments. The Years 8, 9 and 11 students come on a Tuesday after school for an hour of free tutoring and the Yrs. 7, 10 and 11 come on a Thursday. The students are given refreshments and then are tutored by specialists in Maths, English, Science and the Humanities.
If you or your child would like to know more about the program, please email me at the address below:

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Every Thursday at lunchtime, the international students at our school gather to do something simple yet deeply meaningful. We share a meal and enjoy each other’s company.
This weekly event brings together our international students, creating a safe, welcoming space where they can connect, relax, and support each other. With hot meals and long shelf-life food given to the students, it is a time for sharing their experiences, difficulties or issues they face, their joy and successes from their time at school. The students use this platform to create bonds with the other international students and know that they are not feeling isolated.
Whether they’ve recently arrived in Australia or have been here a while, students say the Thursday gatherings help them feel less alone and more at home. It’s a chance to speak in their own language, learn about other cultures, and build friendships across borders.
One of our students who has recently come to Perth from Malaysia said, “It’s my favourite part of the week,”. “We all understand what it’s like to be far from our home country, so we feel nice that we can all meet here once a week.”
These gatherings have had a positive impact on students’ wellbeing, confidence, and sense of belonging. We realise that these get-togethers are more than nourishment. Food and conversations are a universal language that brings people together.
Please enjoy the photos below.
Kind regards

R U OK? DAY
This year students and staff gathered to celebrate the importance of asking R U Ok? Any day! The highlight was the annual staff dance on the front lawn and a delicious sausage sizzle to support Year 11 student Caitlin Kelly travel to Melbourne.

SCIENCE NEWS
International Chemistry Quiz Competition
On 6th and 7th August 2025, Year 8, 9, and 10 Academic students, along with Year 11 and 12 Chemistry students, participated in the International Chemistry Quiz (ICQ) Competition. This competition is conducted across 21 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific region. The ICQ aims to promote awareness of the nature and relevance of chemistry among secondary students. It also provides an opportunity for students to benchmark their achievement in an external examination, with schools receiving a computerised summary of results and student performance. Congratulations to everyone who participated this year!
We are especially proud of the many students who received a Distinction Award—well done to all the award winners!
Year 12 Chemistry - David Rozells, Lucas Bell, Rohith Balachandar, Lily Huang, Hala Burhan and Rezwana Abdullah
Year 11 Chemistry - Jaxxon Martson, Temperance Charles and Xin Yi Chen
Year 8 - Morgan Blissett and Francisca Twumasi
Chemistry Year 12
As part of their chemistry syllabus, Year 12 students took part in a soap making activity. They explored the chemical reaction called saponification, where oils or fats combine with a base to form soap. This hands-on activity helped them connect classroom learning with real-life applications and made the study of chemistry more engaging.

Year 8
Did you know that flowering plants mainly reproduce sexually?
Year 8 students have been exploring reproduction in flowering plants. To reinforce their learning, they carefully dissected flowers to examine the male (stamens) and female (carpels) parts. Pollen from the male parts must reach the female parts to form seeds.
Students enjoyed this hands-on activity. They got to see the parts of a flower up close and learn how flowers reproduce.

Food Science Flourishing
Year 11 & 12 Food Science students have had a busy term creating wonderful food and serving the school community.
Mrs Jarvis’s Year 12 class have run Flourish Café from the commercial kitchen over the duration of their two-year course during recess on a Thursday and this year Café has just been POPPING OFF!! Lines out the door and sold-out food- it’s first in, best fed!
The food provided is top quality and super delicious. The menu has included gourmet foods such as Thai green curry, Biscoff cheesecake, deluxe toasties, Lemon polenta cake, freshly made Halloumi bagels, Syrian chicken with couscous and Brookies.
Students have also learnt the art of a barista coffee and provide hot beverages as part of service.
Ms Friedlos’s Year 11s have been busy preparing for the catering of the Year 12 Morning Tea that takes place in the first week of term as part of their farewell celebrations.
Mini meat pies, sausage rolls, fresh sandwiches, fruit, cakes and slices will be some of the delights served on the day.
The Year 11s also took part in a Bake-off competition as part of their assessments where they individually chose and created a flour-based product and decorated it to further enhance the flavour and appeal.
The selection was amazing, from cookies to muffins, cupcakes to pancakes, the final products were bakery worthy.
Top place was awarded to Kobie for her crunchy yet melt in the mouth choc-chip cookie and Austin secured second place with his moist, chocolatey (but not too crazy sweet) choc-chip muffin.
A great effort from our Food Science students, we are extremely proud of their contribution to our school community.

OHANA CHEER & DANCE

Thunder Ohana Dance Showcase Legacy
On Sunday the 21st of September, our talented Year 7–12 Dance students took to the stage for our annual Dance Showcase, Legacy. The evening was a celebration of creativity, teamwork and passion, with each performance highlighting the dedication and hard work our students have put into their craft throughout the year.
From high-energy group pieces to moving Lyrical works, the showcase reflected the diversity of our dance program and the growth of our students as performers. The support from families, staff and friends in the audience created an inspiring atmosphere, making the night one to remember.
We are incredibly proud of all our dancers for the confidence and artistry they displayed on stage. Legacy was not just a performance, but a testament to the vibrant dance culture we continue to build in our school community.

Congratulations to all the Students!
MUSIC NOTES

ABODA/IMMS FESTIVAL 2025
On Friday 12th September our Concert Band proudly represented Thornlie Senior High School at the 2025 ABODA/IMSS Concert Band Festival, which was held over three consecutive days at Churchlands SHS. The Band performed 3 pieces for adjudication and participated in a post-performance workshop, receiving expert guidance and constructive feedback, which was a fantastic learning experience for all involved.
I am pleased to announce that the Band was awarded the mark of EXCELLENT for their performance this year. Participation in this festival each year provides invaluable experiences for our musicians and helps bands to grow together as an ensemble, whilst also creating long lasting memories. The feedback from the adjudicators was extremely positive and we received marks of 1 (being outstanding) for 5 out of the 8 judging criteria.
Instrumental Music Showcase 2025
57 students involved in the Instrumental Music Program have been working hard all year to prepare for the Music Concert that was held on Tuesday 23rd September. The concert is an annual event and showcases the work the students have been doing in their large ensemble rehearsals before and after school, as well as featuring smaller specialised instrumental groups, duets, trios and solos performed by our senior musicians. It is also an opportunity to say farewell to our outgoing Year 12 musicians, who have been involved in the IMSS program for the last 6 years.
Congratulations to this year’s graduating musicians:
- James Buckland (Trumpet)
- Merania Kingi (Flute)
- Alex Papadoulis (Clarinet)
- Shelby Kilrane (Flute)
Thank you so much for your dedication, perseverance, and commitment to completing your IMSS training and for your contribution to the countless performances over the last 6 years. I wish you all the best for the future!
Thank you also to our amazing IMSS specialist music staff who attended on the night of the showcase to direct/perform with their students – your dedication to the music program at TSHS is so appreciated! Thank you to Joe Bonini (Classical Guitar), Corrina Collins (Flute), Sean Hayes (Clarinet and Saxophone), Michelle Wilde (Brass) and Robyn Gray (Percussion).
Thanks also to the staff, students and family/friends who attended as part of the audience on the evening and to those who were helping behind the scenes. I am so appreciative of having the extra help to ensure that our concerts run smoothly!
I would also like to thank the Thornlie Senior High School P&C Association for their generous donation of supplying and running the supper during our intermission. Thank you so much! A special mention to P&C President Michelle Manolas, who is also an ex-music parent. Thank you.

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS
Whole School Athletics Carnival

Year 12 Outdoor Education Camp
The Year 12s in Outdoor Education travelled to Margaret River for their final ever camp at Thornlie SHS. Luckily, we chose a week with fantastic weather and no rain.
After settling in at Jarrahdene camp site, it was off to the Boranup forest for the afternoon for a bit of cycling. The students enjoyed the scenery but were a bit unhappy about how the big hills were, especially going up them. Mission complete and it was back to camp for rest and food.
Day 2 commenced with half the group visiting Giants cave while the rest was lucky enough to get into Golgotha cave. Everyone was amazed at the structures beneath the surface and had an interesting time when it was lights out in the cave (absolutely total darkness). Then a quick trip to Cowaramup and follow the Rails to Trails or Wadandi Track back to Margaret River. A quick stop for lunch, and Alex G to play on ‘Old Kate’, before assaulting the Single Tracks at Compartment 10. It is fair to say everyone had some sort of crash while on the tracks.
Day 3 was Cliff Day at Wilyabrup. The students alternated climbing and abseiling. A few tears occurred at the top of the cliff but all students had a try and some definitely surprised themselves as well as staff. The end of the day marked their final camp activity and lots of rest was needed.
Many thanks to Mr Binder, Mr Johnson and Ms Cook for their assistance throughout the four days.
Mr Rod Firth

Year 11 Bushwalking Excursion
Our Year 11 students embarked on an adventure along the Little Eagle View Trail in John Forrest National Park to round out the term and prepare us for the upcoming Dwellingup Camp in Term Four.
The 9km loop trail took the group through some stunning landscapes, including waterfalls and close encounters with kangaroos. The students embraced the challenge, showing both determination and enthusiasm as they hiked through the varied terrain. The spectacular views along the way were a reminder of the incredible natural beauty we are lucky to have in our own backyard.
But it wasn't just about the hike! The cooking skills displayed by our students were nothing short of impressive. While battling a rather cheeky group of rainbow parakeets who attempted to steal our snacks, the students cooked up a storm with burgers, burritos, and nachos being some of the highlight meals. They showed creativity, teamwork, and a real sense of fun, making the meal preparation a highlight of the day.
It was an incredible day that showcased not just the natural beauty of the trail, but also the strength of character and spirit of adventure in our Year 11 students. They should all be incredibly proud of their achievements.
Mr Jarrad Symmans

Happy Hikers!
Staff v Students Netball Game
The annual Staff v Student Netball match saw some very confident Year 12s take a strong lead early in the first half. With a few students coming off a Netball grand final loss on the weekend, the intensity and hunger for the win were high.
With the shooting end in great form and speed, Reihana and Alyssa were running circles around Binder and Sereda - until they weren’t.
There were plenty of turnovers and, with an unmatched Withers/Jordan combination in the circle, the PE crew came back quickly with a dominant run of goals - leaving the mid court looking for rule clarification around why they had to keep their feet still.
After settling in during the second half and making the most of defensive turnovers, Bayliss, Symmans and Green had the mid court searching for water instead of the ball.
Final scores saw the staff take the WIN once again, 12–7. It was a great showcase of sportsmanship, respect, and of course skill

CAREERS PRACTITIONER NEWS
Year 9 Early Career Development
All of the Year 9 cohort have now had the opportunity to participate in this great resource provided by Thornlie TAFE. Dinesh, the Thornlie TAFE presenter, attended school for a minimum of 3 lessons per Year 9 HASS class. The focus was to raise student awareness of the variety of different occupations that may be suitable for them in the future. Each class completed the My Future “Career Profile” where students used the excellent computer algorithm to find out which occupations suited their personal preferences (interests, skills, values, education etc). Then students used Virtual Reality headsets to explore occupations of their choice in the virtual world. Some of these occupations included mechanics, barbering, surgery, civil construction (excavators), commercial fishing and so on.
The feedback from students was very positive and all of the Year 9 cohort now know how to access the My Future platform to explore many different occupational interests for the future.
Year 9 Career Taster Program; Thornlie TAFE Careers Day – Friday 19/9/2025
20 Year 9 students attended Thornlie TAFE to experience the many courses that TAFE has to offer around the corner from school. Students found out how they can access TAFE to increase their personal education and training in specific industry areas including various trades (mechanical, body shop, carpentry, cyber security etc). TAFE was operating as usual so they were exposed to the adult learning environment where real apprentices learn their trade. Extra information was provided by the Construction Training Fund, MEGT, Jobs & Skills Centre Thornlie and the Defence Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force).
Individual Career Counselling
Many Year 12 students have now begun the next stage of their education journey with both University and TAFE applications being made. TISC applications have been made by those interested in University and TAFE applications are now open for courses beginning in 2026.
Year 10 Subject Selections
I met with 160+ Year 10 students, most with their parents and or guardians, to work out their preferred subjects for senior school. This was highly successful as the hours of work preparation work beforehand ensured that most students were prepared and had good ideas about where they wanted to go next. It was great to meet with many parents and work with them to ensure that their child was ready and aware of what they had to do to achieve good results in both their Year 11 and Year 12 studies.
Mr James Lamont
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING
Workplace Learning (WPL)
A very busy first three terms for CAVE. By the end of the second week of Term three over 250 two-week blocks of WPL have been completed by Year 11 and 12 students. WPL gives students the chance to experience many of the jobs they have thought about as possible future careers and also to understand the requirements of full-time work.
We’d like to congratulate students on their efforts and application while on placement this year. Many of our students have been able to build industry contacts, obtain excellent references and in many cases have had offers of part-time or holiday work and even offers of full-time work and apprenticeships.
Equally important is the fact that our students are getting the message out that Thornlie students will make great future employees!
The next block of Work-place Learning takes place from the 10th-21st of November for Year 11. It’s weeks five and six of term 4. Students are now encouraged to find their placements and to bring the names and contacts for their placements into the Careers Centre as soon as possible. Students received their B1 WPL form during Certificate class in week 5 of Term 3. The final date for workplace submission is Friday October 17th, the end of Week one Term Four.
Full completion of 110 Hrs of placement along with a satisfactorily completed Logbook and Skills Journal will earn students two C grades towards completing Year 11 and moving to Year12 and will aid in attaining WACE ant the end of Year 12.
If you or someone you know might be able to host one of our students for WPL during the dates above, please don’t hesitate to call or email us or even send your details into the Careers Centre with a student for us to call you and discuss.
Year 12 University (TISC) and TAFE Applications
Applications for University through TISC are currently open. TISC started despatching early offers to students on the 22nd of September. These are first-preference offers, and they are ‘Conditional’ meaning that students must still match the grades used to make the offer, pass any prerequisite subjects, gain English competency and attain WACE. That means they still need to sit ATAR exams. Please check the TISC website for further dates.
TAFE applications opened on the 4st of September and close on the 31st of October. In preparation for applications Year 12 students have had a presentation from TAFE which explained TAFE courses and entry requirements. TAFE applications are free so we encourage all ATAR and General students to apply as, once courses are full, they will not allow extra students for a 2025 first semester start. Offers can always be declined if a students’ circumstances change. Offers for the competitive courses, the poplar ones such as nursing and pre app for Electrical, will be out on the 3rd of December.
Several students have already been accepted into courses determined by the Government as ‘in need’. They’re required to now provide evidence of work experience and jobs. Students are encouraged to not send original copies of evidence eg. WPL Hours records but instead send copies or photos.
Certificate II Courses
Certificate courses are complete for Year 12 students. Many have finished with a qualification which may lead straight into employment, allowing them to bypass TAFE for their first jobs. Others will use their qualification to make their application into competitive courses such as nursing or electrotechnology more compelling or even, to apply for Certificate IIIs or IV courses. No matter how it’s used, a completed Certificate II puts our students at an advantage over other Year 12s who’s schools no longer offer these courses.
Year 11s are now halfway through their courses. Students must ensure that they maintain at least an 85% attendance and that they continually work at competing tasks at school, with their trainers, to their highest possible standard. Just finishing class work at the last second, with no volume of learning behind it (attendance) does not meet the required standards placed on us as an RTO and may result in a student not earning their Certificate.
Thornlie SHS RTO’s recent reregistration has allowed us to now use some of our funding on new student equipment rather than compliance. We’ve been able to purchase, new easles for Certificate II in Visual Arts, a new SLR camera and lenses for portraits in Certificate II in Creative Industries and for recording other tasks in various Arts Certificates, new tap-shoes for the Certificate II in Dance and a new virtual baby and resource cabinet for Certificate II in Community Services. We arranged for a commercial photocopier to based the Certificate II in Work Skills room to complete specific assessment tasks. Also, in planning are new mountain bikes and helmets for Certificate II in Sport and Recreation and extra baby resuscitation manikins and defibrillation trainers to help speed up training and assessing the First Aid course currently offered in four of the Certificate courses.
Mr Zambon, Mrs Boston, Mrs Neale.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST UPDATE
It was fantastic to see so many parents at our first Triple P Parenting Seminar last week – please keep an eye on compass as we will be offering other seminars in the next 6 months such as Fear-Less: helping your child cope with anxiety and digital wellbeing.
Today’s newsletter article will be focusing on digital wellbeing with your teenager. One of the challenges that has come with parenting in the modern age is monitoring the use of technology. This is best done as a gradual process as teenagers grow from children to adolescents but each of us as parents must set our own rules and limits to encourage responsible and safe use of technology.
How to help develop responsible use:
- Inform yourself about current trends – ask other parents what rules they have in place for rules, be aware of what electronic devices your teenager has access to, find out what apps or gaming platforms they are using the most and have regular conversations about usage
- Encourage your teenager to set boundaries – ask them how much time they think is appropriate to spend on a game, ask them what the motive is of the person who developed the game/app so they can consider things such as: who owns the information, how reliable is it, is it trying to influence them or sell them something
- Discuss that any conflict is best resolved face to face and not over technology and sometimes delaying sending a message until after they have had time to cool down and think about it
- Discuss how this could impact them in the future – will there be any consequences from photos or comments they’ve posted in the future, what would happen if a future employer saw that, talk about how common data breaches are and how would they feel if everything became public
- Agree on rules about usage as a family through having a family meeting to set them and discuss with your teenager what consequences should be in place if this rule is broken
- Develop plans with them to stay safe such as how to block or not respond to unwanted messages, how to avoid getting into situations where things are posted of them online that they don’t want, how to get support from esafety commissioner.

HEALTH CENTRE NEWS
Your Move
We have been busy planning for our Bike Month activity, Tour de Thornlie for 2025. Students need to register and then to ride to and from school during the month of October and log their kilometres ridden each day. We have some great prizes for the student who rides the furthest for the month, the students who ride the most often for the month and prizes for just participating. Check out the posters around the school to register and to log daily kilometres.
Bike Security
We have had a focus on Bike Security this term with posters put up in the bike compound with the BikeLinc QR code to register their bike as well as information in the Daily Notices about BikeLinc. The Your Move Champion handed out brochures to students in the bike compound after school.
New Your Move Banner
We are continuing to plan and design our new banner which we will use to kick off our Active Travel Day, Fume Free Fridays, hopefully term 4 but definately for the beginning of term 1 next year.
Want to Join Your Move
The Your Move team area always happy to have new students join our team. Go and see Sue James, our Community Health Nurse in Student Services or just turn up to a Your Move meeting that occur a couple of times a term at recess. We are all about promoting Active Travel, to and from school, good for students mental and physical health as well as great for the environment and for decreasing car congestion around the school at the beginning and the end of the school day.
